Messages and Mitzvot
From Zahava's Facebook Messages:
We will add the messages Zahava is receiving on Facebook to share the tremendous words of love, appreciation, and mitzvoth from her community. We will try to post in the messages in order, but it may not always be possible to keep up with the amazing outpouring of love and mitzvoth.
If only we could tag every single person in our beautiful community, literally from every shul, every school, who have come together, who has and continues to go above and beyond…. We are overwhelmed by your generosity and your love for our family.
The food, "just checking in" phone call and "thinking of you" texts, flowers, play dates, grocery shopping, snacks and treats for the kids, pizzas, coffees in the morning, visits for Savta, the visitors (and rides) that came up to Jacksonville. We are so grateful for everything. HaShem should bless all of you with Arichas Yamim filled with Nachas from your children.
This week should bring an open miracle, a full Refuah for dear My mother, and a safe Return of our poor brothers in Israel. Have a beautiful Shabbos.

Dear Mrs Goldwasser,
Although we do not know each other personally, I am fortunate to knowAdina Goldwasser Stilerman and Shlomo, through whom I am confident that your values and commitment to open hearted giving are expressed and enrich so many who come into contact with them. I therefore believe that I have a good sense of the sort of person that you are!
I know someone who is in a very vulnerable position in life. He is a truly good soul, however was unfortunate to be born with various medical and mental issues which make his life restricted and lonely. I have made efforts to keep in contact with him as consistently as possible, particularly as I know how much it means for him to simply know that he has a friend in me. I sense that a simple catch up phone call can literally have the impact of changing his outlook on the day. Despite this, my ‘busy life’ and ‘important matters’ get in the way, I loose sight of the value of practicing compassion and I have not given him the attention he deserves. In your merit, I choose to contact him regularly and develop my relationship with him. As well as gladdening his soul, I also believe that this will serve to refine my character in understanding that kindness and greatness often lie in seemingly small everyday gestures. That simply being present for someone can potentially have more meaning and value than the most grandiose acts of giving. I will treat this as an opportunity to practice the lifelong task of going beyond my own ego and self importance.
My wish for you Zahava, is that you are able to fearlessly greet the wisdom which your illness contains into your life and be enriched by it. That this serves as an opportunity to perceive the impermanent nature of our existence and therefore deeply internalize what is of fundamental value in life.
I wish and pray for your refuah shlema and I have absolute faith that you will achieve full healing.
Daniel (Manchester, UK)

Just want you to know that we are davening for u and that if u or your daughter in Bais Yaacov need anything i am here for her she can come to my office anytime.Bertha Matz- Sometimes in life, we meet a person with whom you immediately feel a special connection. when my husband and i decided to be part of the Goldwasser Pesach program, little did I know I would be priveledged to make such a connection. Zahava, our first phone call and the many that followed, made me aware of your "specialness". You tried to accommodate us with our requests and needs in every possible way. There was never a time that I called you and you pushed me off to someone else nor did you make me feel that you were too busy to speak with me. You were an absolute "Lady" and a delight. When we met for the first time on yom tov, we hugged and kissed as if we hadn't seen each other in years! Wow, you really made me feel welcome! My children watched us laughing and shmoozing assuming we were old friends, never realizing that this was our first "face to face" meeting.
What a shock it was after Pesach to learn of your diagnosis.I spoke to someone last night and she gave me this site to connect with you. One never knows what to say or do, especially since I am a mere stranger in your network of friends. I have been saying Tehillim ever since I heard of your illness. Hopefully you will be making a seudat hodaah in the not too distant future. In the meantime, know that many people (even those that have had a brief encounter with you) are davening for you and praying for a complete refuah. B'ezrat Hashem we will hear good news in the ensuing e-mails. May your Bitachon in Hashem and the strength of your family and friends carry you through this dark time and may the light shine bright very soon. Lillian Hahn
Every day you are in our prayers. My daughter Leah who works in Beis Rivkah, Crown Heights has arrange tehilim to be read by the school for a refuah shelema.
I know it will hasten your recovery. May you have a good shabbos, peaceful . We have to think good and it will be good. Choula Nash

Thank you for the lesson - we will all grow from this heroic strong focus !!amen amen amen! Please Hashem be merciful and keep you strong !! Amen!
- Asher Wade The halacha of "not sitting on the bed of a Choleh" is derived from the fact that, although knowing the Chesed of Am Yisroel to daven for someone in desperate need, the Shechinah of HaShem hovers over the head of a Choleh just to hear the tephilos v`tachnunim that one would offer up for oneself ~ Zahavah, teacher of strength, you have shown the way of greater humility which we should all follow to reflect & daven 'even' for "ourselves" in times of great testing. - May you experience many more neisim v`niflios with a speedy refuah shelaymah, Amain.
- Shmuel Krawatsky What a wonderful way to start the day!! May more good news keep coming your way. Sharing your personal stories is so inspiring and empowering. I was reading Tehillim 62 and these words reminded me of you,"One thing has G-d spoken, these two have I heard: That strength belongs to God; and Your, my Lord, is kindness, for You reward each man in accordance with his deeds" Zahavah - in all the years I have known you, I have never seen you once react with anything but abundant kindness - my Hashem reward you according to you outstanding midos and may your refuah come speedily. Shoshana and I are learning every day for you. Your request for more mitzvos must be shaking Shemayim - 1000's of people adding just one mitzvah or learning one thing could change all of Klal Yisroel. Rena Lynn Fuller

Can't wait to give Zahava Goldwasser a huge hug! And share all the hugs I am bringing her for near and far! — at The Inn at Mayo Clinic -- Sarena Kopciel
To the Jacksonville Jewish Community: My dear friend Devora Goldwasser Bensoussan's mother, Zahava Goldwasser, was diagnosed a few weeks ago with a rare aggressive form of cancer. She began chemo treatment today at Mayo in Jacksonville. In the zechus for her refuah, Mrs. Goldwasser has asked everyone to take on additional mitzvot or work on a middah. It is incredible how much of an impact her request has made on people all over the world, pledging to better their communities, their own personal spirits and their faith to Hashem. I ask all of you to join in with your own pledges to perform mitzvot in her merit and to join us in davening for Mrs. Goldwasser's refuah shlema Jodi Schneider Shapiro
We just came back from Israel ( where we first heard about your illness ) and we prayed everyday there that Hashem should bring you a complete רפואה שלמה.
I saw your daughter Rena at the Berkowitz funeral. She looks beautiful and certainly derives strength from your inspiring emunah. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Dahlia Oppenheimer
Zahava, Nechie Braun- a guest from pesach arranged this week for 40 women to bake challahin Flatbush in the zechus for your refuah. As soon as people find out who know you a lot or just a little they are extremely moved and want to do whatever they can.Tammy Roz
Hi Zahava, I'm Kelly from London. We haven't met but as I know many of the people on here have also said, you have raised such a beautiful, caring, fun, special daughter Adina, who literally lights up peoples lives. So much of that credit goes to you, the way Adina speaks of you so highly and with such good energy it is so clear you are a huge source of inspiration to your family. I pray, along with so many others, that you make a full and speedy recovery, keep smiling and have full belief - knowledge - that you will pull through this time. I have been back and forth trying to become more observant and I have decided to keep a full Shabbat in your merit. Bless you Zahava! Xxxxx Kelly Tehilla

Hi Zahava, I'm shaked from London, I've been friendly with your daughter Adina for a few years (since her oldest was in my nursery class), she is such a sunny, lovely person, and though I don't know you at all, the way she turned out can say so much about who raised her, and it only says good things! I was so saddened to hear you are unwell, and I join the many many people who are davening for you all over the world. May you share with us good news very very soon! I will take on myself to work on a midday. Besoros tovot. Shaked Stopnitzky

If you are able to commit to saying a few kapitlach each day (or finding a substitute on a day you can't), please respond to this post with your e-mail address. Tizku L'Mitzvos.Nachamah Jacobovits

I think I am feeling stronger than I have in awhile ... Voice is stronger..Cough is better ... Less pain swallowing and there is no reason other than I am feeling the power of your tefilos, your learning Torah and the increased mitzvah observance that is taking place on my behalf ! I have recently been fortunate enough to go to Prague with Aish Hampstead where Rabbi Stillerman run an inspiring, motivational and fulfilling trip. It was on this trip that the group was informed that a very special person needed to be prayed for a recovery. We were actually in Theresienstadt where the Jews were persecuted and we stood there as a group showing that we are still strong and here today. That was an extremely powerful moment and showed me that the Jewish people are special and have strength within that we may not even know about. Once we returned from the trip, I found out that this special person was you. The powerful lessons learnt in Prague is a true reflection of your unfortunate news and how you not only do you have support from your family and friends, but Jewish people all over the world who have heard. You are in my thoughts and prayers and am hopeful you will find the strength within to make a speedy recovery. In your merit I will give to Charity more often. Your family have already welcomed their home to me and I look forward to spending Shabbat at theirs where again you will be in our thoughts. Roxane Jackson

Zahava where do I start... We only met once back in Adina and Shlomo's first apartment in London, standing in the corridor schmoozing so I doubt you remember me. I just wanted to say how inspired we all are by you and for all that know your children, without even know you, can see what an amazing mother you are. I am honored to know Adina very well, and also spent a number of Shabbosim at Rena's in Har Nof... Adina and Shlomo are changing the world, one soul at a time. They opened their home to me and gave me time, when others may have chosen otherwise. Rena opened her home to me one Shabbos when I was in Sem, and then in true Goldwasser style, invited me back again 3 Sem friends in hand. All this comes from you!! I've taken on something which I'll allow Adina to share with you privately - bzH Klal Yisrael shall move mountains for you for a speedy speedy refuah shlema! Brooke Taylor\\
I am a friend of Nomi from Moreshet and hearing you are ill saddened me. I am going to take on saying brachot achronot with more care, as well as more often in your zechut. May you merit a refuah sheleima. Speedily.Sarah Kaiserman Wunder

She wants people to take on a special mitzvah or work on a middah (character trait) in her merit. Please go to Zahava Goldwasserpage (you will need to Friend her first), and post your name, city you live in, and how you plan to become a better person, a better Jew, in her merit. Share this with your friends. Let's get the world posting to her. She needs this, the world needs this, and may this be a merit for a complete recovery! Her hebrew name is Zahava bas Sara Necha. Forwarded by Dr. G on Monday morning, May 12:
Wanted to share this beautiful letter that we received from Julie Lehman Weissman, one of our CLE students who currently is raising her family in Ramat Baer Shemesh:
Incredibly inspiring and gave us a lot of chizukDear Mrs. G, Eric and my tefillos and thoughts are with you constantly. You are definitely our Imma and very responsible for our growth and return to yiddishkeit. I still remember my first shabbos at your house with Brittney and many many more after that including yom tovim, pesach seder, eden tours, and too many smachot in your home to count. Much of our desire to host college, yeshiva, and seminary students in our home in Israel is a direct result of the chessed we experienced in your home. You flew to our wedding in NY and our first son's bris in Jerusalem ( it was conveniently the same week as Aileens wedding!). Your children have also impacted us tremendously and you should enjoy unimaginable nachas from them, your grandchildren and all of your CLE grandchildren always. We are raising FFB kids because of you. No amount of thanks can ever be enough.
We have arranged for learning to be done for your refua during shiurim at Shearim, the OU israel center, in our home, and Rabbi Bregmans new york radio show. Aviya and i are learning halichos bas yisrael in your merit. We are davening for you and know you will pull through because all of klal yisrael, especially Miami Beach needs you. You are a truly unique neshama who radiates love and kindness to all.
Last week I went to a shiur and the rav told a story as follows... a 90 year old man was not well right before pesach. He went to the doctor, who ran some tests and sadly relayed, "I'm sorry but you have cancer and it has spread everywhere. I dont think you will possibly make it another month." The man got straight in a cab to Bnei brak to see Rav Zilberstein, a son in law of Rav Eliashiv. He said "Rav, counting sefiras haomer is one continuous mitzvah. If one knows he will not be able to make the bracha each and every night, he cannot make the bracha to begin with. The doctor says I wont make it another month, should I start counting sefira without a bracha?" The Rav looks at the man with compassionate eyes and says "let me tell you a story. A boy sees a candy in his house that he wants so he asks his mother if he can have it. She says 'Im sorry sweetie but its almost dinner time and you cant have it now or you will spoil your appetite.' Yet the boy really wants it and hes quite a cunning child. So he goes over to the candy and quickly makes a loud bracha shehakol. His mother gasps. She has to give him the candy so that he wont have done the serious aveira of a bracha lvatalla. He forced her hand by saying this bracha. How much more so HKB"H does not want you making a bracha lvatalla. So yes, count sefira WITH a bracha and you will force Hashems hand to give you life at least until Shavuos." The man did so, and lived three full years after that. A medical impossibility.
Mrs. G, so too by you, I am utterly overwhelmed at the amount of davening, mitzvahs, tehillim, events and more that are going on in your zchus. We are storming the heavens with a fervor that Hashem cannot ignore. He will be forced to give you not 3, but 43 more years of good life filled with simcha and bracha. May you shep nachas when Eli's children get married!
We are all with you. Holding your hand from a far and pouring tears into our heartfelt tefillos for you.
With all our love
Eric and Julie
Hearing that you were ill, wrenched my heart and that of my entire family. We met you and your family for the first time at your pesach program this year. We could not stop talking about what a warm wonderful family we felt privileged to be part of over yom tov. We have been to many many programs over the years some better than others but none like yours. The example you and your family set as people, made our experience exceptional. You are all so warm, welcoming and caring. We look forward to getting to know you better. Me, my husband and all my children are davening for you. I will be in Eretz yisroel next week and will daven specifically for your full and speedy recovery at all the holy sites that I will be at as well as at the chupah we will be at. You set an example of how a frum Jew should conduct themselves and I look forward to being able to see you set that example for us, your family and friends until 120 years. Barbara Davidovits (The IFRAHS)
Zahava, you and your amazing family have been my role models for many years. I am a better person because of your daughter Devora and the impact she has had on my life. She is who she is because of you! On your behalf, I will make sure that I light my candles on time and will bake challah. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. You are truly loved by so many!!!! Eileen Hazan Ginzburg
Happy Mother's Day to you, my dear mommy. You are my rock, my inspiration. I would like to work on many things but there is one thing I need to perfect, for you. I need to be a perfect mommy to my beautiful treasures. They deserve to have a mommy like I have. Thank you for showing me what to do. I love you so much mommy. Next year this time, we will all have a mommy's day brunch and Seudas hodaah in yerushalayim together. I just know it, I feel it. You have a tremendous spiritual army fighting for you, moving mountains for you! The amazing hashgacha stories that we have experienced already shows us who's the boss. We have ONE doctor, ONE puppeteer, he is going to give the doctors (down here) great ideas, you'll see, we are going to have an open neis. We need you here, mommy the world needs you. Stay strong mom, stay strong. Devora Goldwasser Bensoussan
Mrs. Goldwasser, You should just know that I took a piece of you with me almost 18 years ago from those early mornings before carpool when I used to wait in your house! I call it "my Mrs. Goldwasser moments"! When things seem hectic and life is flying and I just want to scream I tell myself "just have a Mrs. Goldwasser moment"! I tried to emulate your golden smile, seemingly endless patients, and your soft sweet voice that never changed no matter what was going on! Thank you for that gift that you didn't even know you gave me! My mother and I have begun learning Iggeres HaRamban together for a zuchus for your complete and speedy recovery!! We began learning the first pasuk "Accustom yourself to speak gently to all people at all times" it could not be more fitting to learn anything else! I look forward to dancing with you and your entire family here in Eretz yisroel with Moshiach and The Bais HaMikdash.... B'karov!! Love, Shoshana (Fuller) Seif

I've been thinking over my message to you for the past two days, not sure exactly what to write. Words are nowhere near enough. Although we met only a few times in passing, I went to high school with Nomi Goldwasser Landis Adina Stilerman and Devora Goldwasser Bensoussan. It is always so painful to hear such news , but especially about a woman whom people speak so highly of and with such admiration. In the zchus for your complete refuah/arichas yomim, I have taken upon myself to daven birchas hashachar and also to take a moment each day to appreciate what Hashem has given me. So much for which many of us take for granted. Please stay strong for your family, for your friends and for all of us who are davening for your speedy refuah. You are truly an inspirational woman. - Shaindy Sosnow-Paritzky

She's such a special woman and I really enjoyed her company. In your merit I have chosen two hours each day with a friend to not speak loshon hora. I also passed the message on to some friends who don't have Facebook-one chose to speak more patiently to her family and one chose to accept shabbos ten minutes earlier. You are truly a special women and we are all davening for you. Tova Kahan

As witnessed at the Tehillim last night through the strong and heartfelt Tfilot in your honor and through all of the beautiful posts here, it is clear that you are a very special person and you have made a very large impact upon your community. I promise to have a more positive outlook on life and to focus more upon blessings that have been bestowed upon me, rather than the negative. In your merit, I intend to make an exceptional effort of stopping myself when I begin to let my frustrations out on others. Tonight was facsinating... jackie bitton gave an incresible shiur. I had some girls over for dinner, so i came late and didnt get a chance to give her ur name. Mid way thru her shiur she recalls a story that happened to her when someone contacted her from the doral. She spoke to beautifully abt this person from this pesach program... after the shiur, just as i intended to announce ur name to the 100 girls, i asked her if she knew, she didnt.... every1 said ur name and wrote it down to wish u a refua shelema. If thats not from shamayim.... u werent just another name.... u were part of their inspiration for the night she started the shiur saying how hashem just puts words in her mouth. She doesnt know why... May the inspiration from tonight and all that comes with it be a zchus for ur recovery bemeheyra. Avivit Pasternak Mikhil

wow, where do I even begin? How can one use words to sing the praises of another so deserving, so special, when words seem wholly inadequate? The outpouring of love and gratitude for you on Facebook alone could say more than I ever could and in a better way that I could ever hope to convey. To me this is no surprise as your eternally warm heart and boundless generosity and kindness is not just so evident in all that you do, but it shines through the lives of you children, children-in-law and your grandchildren. The way in which you and Dr G have brought up your children and the lessons that you have taught them have not only made a lasting impression on them, but through all your children, you have touched the lives of so many, many more, well beyond what you could possibly have imagined. Your passionate faithfulness to all those principles that sit so solidly at the heart of this world, giving our world the rhythm the Almighty intended, is a lesson to us all. Your children have taken your passion for Judaism, your compassion for others and your understanding of the simplicity of choice between what is right and good and what is not so, and with these they have built up entire worlds, connected whole communities and they have imbued people's lives with meaning and empowerment….May Hashem bless you with a full, complete, speedy and painless recovery, may He delight in how you have made this world a more remarkable place, may He take pride in all that you have done for so many around the world and may He give you strength and blessings for many more years to come. In a zechus for your recovery, I will work on the way that I talk to or about others - may the words I use be for the good and in a way that true and just. -- Daniel Sherman
